The common wheat variety Sagittario is characterized by high yield and high quality. It is a cultivar with very high test weight. The rheological analyses have confirmed that Sagittario belongs to the category of strong gluten wheat. The farinograph stability is very high. The quality stability of Sagittario under different cultural conditions is also of particular interest. Quality is constant and optimal for bread production (W > 250; P/L = 0.6 - 0.9). A six years survey conducted by CRPV (Center for Research on Plant Production, offi cial italian authority) on samples of Sagittario collected from different cultivations has confi rmed the stable characteristics of Sagittario and the quality of strong gluten wheat.
SOWING DATE
Normal or late sowing dates are advisable. Early sowing dates are not recommended.
SOWING DENSITY
400 – 500 germinating seed per square meter. It is advisable not to exceed the quantity of seed (approximately 180 – 200 kg per hectare).
NITROGEN FERTILIZATION
Nitrogen fertilization should be shared in different times with the biggest amount during the culm elongation. To improve quality, additional nitrogen can be distributed at the booting stage.
PHYTOSANITARY DEFENCE
No particular fungicide treatments are required. Preventive treatments will be economically advantageous only under conditions particularly favourable to the development of fungal infections, Brown Rust particularly.
