The pasta-making quality targets, based on people’s needs, are constantly revised by Barilla in order to have a continous improvement of this complex character. The PSB variety Normanno has been released to meet the new improved standards. Medium-early durum wheat with high yield potential, good resistance to common diseases and lodging. Very good pasta making quality, very high gluten quality, protein content and yellow index (b = 24 – 26).

ADVICE FOR CULTIVATION

SOWING DATE

Late sowing date are not recommended.

SOWING DENSITY

Sowing should be performed with 400 germinating seeds per meter in adequately prepared soils.

NITROGEN FERTILIZATION

Nitrogen should be distributed according to local conditions. With adequate water availability, additional fertilizer can be distributed at the booting stage to improve protein content. Under low density conditions, additional nitrogen should be provided at the end of winter.

PHYTOSANITARY DEFENCE

The variety Normanno, in consideration of its genetic resistance to the main diseases, does not require preventive treatments which will be economically advantageous only under particularly favourable conditions to the development of fungal infections.
