The durum wheat variety Svevo, obtained through a collaboration between Società Produttori Sementi Bologna and Barilla, is characterized by a high protein content and a high yellow index of its semolina. Svevo has an high yield potential, as determined by the three yield components, namely: ear fertility, kernel weight and number of ears/m², the latter being the most prevalent. Kernels are characterized by excellent qualitative properties, very good semolina colour and very good suitability for industrial transformation.
SOWING DATE
Early sowing date are not recommended.
SOWING DENSITY
Sowing should be performed with 350 - 400 germinating seeds per meter in adequately prepared soils.
NITROGEN FERTILIZATION
Nitrogen should be distributed according to local conditions. With adequate water availability, additional fertilizer can be distributed at the booting stage to improve protein content. Under low density conditions, additional nitrogen should be provided at the end of winter.
PHYTOSANITARY DEFENCE
The variety Svevo, in consideration of its genetic resistance to the main diseases, does not require preventive treatments which will be economically advantageous only under particularly favourable conditions to the development of fungal infections.
