La Produttori Sementi di Bologna: Instrumental enterprise of the Fondazione Bancaria Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna

The Seed Company Produttori Sementi (now renamed Società Produttori Sementi Bologna) was founded in 1911 by Prof. Francesco Todaro with the support of the National Academy of Agriculture.

Todaro had the merit to recognize, well ahead of his time, that the development of agriculture would largely be determined by the contribution of research together with the utilization of seeds of improved cultivars.

Today the Company Produttori Sementi belongs to the Foundation “Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna”, which owns 99.97% of the company shares. Produttori Sementi is an “instrumental enterprise” of the Foundation, according to section 1, letter H, of Legislative Decree no. 153/1999.
