Traceability System

PSB recognizes the need to identify the origin of a product and related information through an integrated system. Therefore, the Company has adopted a Traceability system for the wheat and alfalfa chain in order to improve the company’s transparency market and check the production process.

In fact, PSB oversees the development of this system. Farm suppliers and all the members in the chain are involved by agreement. Introducing the traceability system, based on UNI 10939:2001, PSB in collaboration with the chain members concerned entails: increasing the transparency of process controls and problem identification; tracing seeds from creation to marketing; finding critical control points in the chain for safety management; verifying relations between the processing operations (sowing, harvesting, processing, sale) to prevent non-conformities and project-related management activities; using a system based on information technology to find data more quickly and to improve choices during the processing operations; reporting the required information on the web site in order to trace back batches of certified seeds.

PSB has developed “Tr@cePSB”, a new food traceability software which records, processes and files all the information obtained from the main activities (sowing, field checking, harvesting and the quality test). Seed identification is guaranteed at every stage in the process by a code containing information relating to the main characteristics (variety, production year, type, PSB code)
This Database permits:

  • manage and identify seed along the whole chain,
  • add information to other PSB databases in order to improve information flow between them,
  • easily connect the seed code to its quality parameters,
  • asses the quantitative product balance during the different steps of the chain,
  • make the seed history available to our clients through software which publishes the required information on the PSB website.
