Improving agricultural production through research and transfer of innovation
This has been the mission of Società Produttori Sementi di Bologna (PSB) since 1911. Thanks to its own research activity, aiming to create increasingly innovative and high-yield varieties, as regards both production and quality, Società Produttori Sementi di Bologna has become a leading company in the wheat sector today. Because of its well-defined business strategy and forward-looking approach, compared to its competitors, and by concentrating its research on the production chain, PSB has managed to respond to market challenges through the technological quality of its products. This, together with many other improved characteristics in PSB varieties (productivity, resistance to disease, adaptability, rheological and milling qualities) has led to considerable advantages at all stages of the production chain, from producer to final user.
At a time when market requirements and the concept of "quality" are rapidly evolving, PSB research has, for many years now, widened its interests further to include safety and the safeness of its products (see mycotoxins), their dietary characteristics (functional foods) and the sustainability of agricultural production. These strategies will strengthen the position of primary importance that the Company already holds today within the context of innovative production (common wheat, durum wheat and alfalfa), both in Italy and world-wide.
